Thank you for your comments on the Draft Local Plan 2021-2040. 

We are now analysing the responses we have received. 

All the responses received through our consultation website can still be viewed and those received by email or letter will be available by the summer.  

There will be further consultation on the Local Plan before a final version is submitted to the Government for examination. 

We have extended the deadline to take part in our Local Plan consultation until 5pm on Friday 8 March.

Due to a technical fault, access to our online consultation website was interrupted for short periods on Saturday morning, and then again on Monday morning.

Residents were still able to read the plans and comment by email during this period, but due to the outage of the online platform we have decided to extend the consultation period.

Monday 22 January is the first day of a consultation into proposals that will help shape the future of the district until 2040.

You can read the whole document, or sections that are important to you, and leave comments on our consultation webpage.

The Local Plan is a crucial planning document that provides a vision for creating sustainable development in parts of the district outside the South Downs National Park.

It makes proposals for sites and planning policies and outlines how the Government’s housing targets can be met and what business sites and infrastructure are required.

The plan will also set out how development can be managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment as much as possible.

Our consultation will be conducted on a digital platform allowing readers to head to the sections that are most important to them and then make their comments quickly and easily.

Proposals that will help shape the future of the district until 2040 will go out to public consultation on Monday.

Our consultation on the Local Plan will give you a say on housing, employment sites, infrastructure and the environment in parts of the district outside the South Downs National Park.

The Local Plan is a crucial planning document that provides a vision for creating sustainable development in the district, alongside proposals for sites and planning policies.

It explains how the Government’s housing targets can be met and what business sites and infrastructure are required.

The plan will also set out how development can be managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment as much as possible.

Cllr Angela Glass, EHDC’s Portfolio Holder for Regulation and Enforcement, said: “Local Plans are hugely complex documents, balancing housing needs with infrastructure, employment and the environment.

“Development and growth are essential if we are going to create a prosperous and vibrant economy.

“The Local Plan seeks to meet the Government’s housing targets and deliver new homes in the right places, with the right supporting infrastructure.

“Above everything we must consider how we can limit the impact development has on the environment and our local landscape.

“There are so many vital issues to consider through a Local Plan but we can’t do it without the contribution of residents.

“Please take this opportunity to have your say on the Local Plan, your voice really matters to us.”

As well as the online responses, we have received a number of written responses.

We are now reading and collating all the comments we have received and will publish the results as soon as possible.
