Help us identify previously developed land for consideration in the new Local Plan

Do you know of any brownfield land that is suitable and available for development?

Brownfield land should be the priority for development. To make sure we have considered all possibilities in the Local Plan, we are running a “Call for Brownfield Sites”, running from 7 May to 7 June. https://ehdccallforsites.commonplace.is/

This is your opportunity to let us know about those brownfield sites that you think could deliver development in our planning area (outside of the South Downs National Park).

As well as brownfield sites, we would like to receive suggestions for land for Traveller and Travelling Showpeople accommodation and Biodiversity Net Gain (BNG).

If you know of any land that meets our requirements, then please tell us about it by using this link. https://ehdccallforsites.commonplace.is/

Tell us about brownfield sites suitable for development

Help us identify previously developed land for consideration in the new Local Plan.

Do you know of any brownfield land that is suitable and available for development?

During our Local Plan consultation, held between 22 January and 8 March, we invited residents to make comments on the policies and proposed development sites in the draft Local Plan.

Many of the responses we received suggested that every opportunity should be taken to identify brownfield land for development. This has always been the approach we take, however, we have not managed to identify sufficient brownfield land able to deliver the amount of new homes we need.

We agree that brownfield land should be the priority for development. To make sure we have considered all possibilities, we are launching a “Call for Brownfield Sites”, running from 7 May to 7 June. https://ehdccallforsites.commonplace.is/

BNG requires all developments to provide greater biodiversity than might be lost due to development. This might sometimes mean making planting or landscaping changes to a suitable site elsewhere.

If you know of any land that meets our requirements, then please tell us about it by using this link. https://ehdccallforsites.commonplace.is/

Monday 22 January is the first day of a consultation into proposals that will help shape the future of the district until 2040.

You can read the whole document, or sections that are important to you, and leave comments on our consultation webpage.

The Local Plan is a crucial planning document that provides a vision for creating sustainable development in parts of the district outside the South Downs National Park.

The plan will also set out how development can be managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment as much as possible.

Our consultation will be conducted on a digital platform allowing readers to head to the sections that are most important to them and then make their comments quickly and easily.

Launch of Local Plan Consultation

Take part from Monday 22 January to Monday 4 March

Proposals that will help shape the future of the district until 2040 will go out to public consultation on Monday.

Our consultation on the Local Plan will give you a say on housing, employment sites, infrastructure and the environment in parts of the district outside the South Downs National Park.

The Local Plan is a crucial planning document that provides a vision for creating sustainable development in the district, alongside proposals for sites and planning policies.

It explains how the Government’s housing targets can be met and what business sites and infrastructure are required.

The plan will also set out how development can be managed to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and protect the environment as much as possible.

Cllr Angela Glass, EHDC’s Portfolio Holder for Regulation and Enforcement, said: “Local Plans are hugely complex documents, balancing housing needs with infrastructure, employment and the environment.

“Development and growth are essential if we are going to create a prosperous and vibrant economy.

“The Local Plan seeks to meet the Government’s housing targets and deliver new homes in the right places, with the right supporting infrastructure.

“Above everything we must consider how we can limit the impact development has on the environment and our local landscape.

“There are so many vital issues to consider through a Local Plan but we can’t do it without the contribution of residents.

“Please take this opportunity to have your say on the Local Plan, your voice really matters to us.”

Our consultation will be conducted on a digital platform allowing readers to head to the sections that are most important to them and then make their comments quickly and easily.

A series of public events will be held during the consultation

Whitehill & Bordon Forest Community Centre, Thursday 1 Feb, 3.30-7.30pm

The Maltings, Alton, Saturday 3 Feb, 10-2pm

The Millennium Centre at Liphook, Wed 7 Feb, 3.30-7.30pm.

Local Plan Issues and Priorities consultation responses

Thank you to everyone who took part in our last Local Plan consultation. The consultation looked at key issues and priorities for our district, such as the climate emergency and an ageing population.

We received more than 3,000 contributions and they are all now available to view on our website. The responses have been collated into themes, along with the results from the questions asked.

Thank you to everyone who took part, your comments will help us to make sure the Local Plan best meets the needs of our local communities and the requirements set by Government.

As can be seen from the responses, we have received a wide range of views, sometimes conflicting. It is the role of the council to use these responses, as well as other evidence, to identify a reasonable and deliverable strategy for the Local Plan.

The Local Plan is a vital document that will affect how the district grows over the next 20 years, so now is the time to get involved. We can’t do it without you.

You will be notified directly of the next Local Plan consultation, which will include proposed policies and site allocations.
